Why Dysport is Used
The reasons we develop frown lines and wrinkles are many. Yes, it is a part of aging, as the skin of the forehead loses elasticity and the muscles that control facial expressions weaken. However, frown lines are also a result of an expressive face. They are caused by repeated muscle contractions and facial movements, which can happen to younger adults as well. Squinting, smiling, frowning and laughing are all wonderful parts of a social life. Unfortunately the deep lines are an unwanted result. Dysport injections allow you to keep the facial expressions but eliminate the unwanted facial lines.
Dysport for Wrinkles
Relaxers are the most common cosmetic treatment, with more than three million treatments performed per year. They are most commonly used to treat dynamic wrinkles such as forehead lines, “crow’s feet,” and frown lines. Dysport was developed for adults who want to banish wrinkles but avoid the dreaded “frozen face.” Dysport is a prescription injection that has been proven to smooth the appearance of moderate to severe frown lines, without affecting the movement of the rest of the face. The injections only affect the targeted muscles, therefore allowing the untreated muscles to still work normally, keeping your natural facial expressions and movements. The facial lines disappear, not your facial expressions.

How Dysport Works
Dysport works in treating moderate to severe frown lines by reducing muscle activity in the areas that are involved. The wrinkles are a result of repeated muscle contractions and repeated facial movements. Dysport is a botulinum neurotoxin (abobotulinumtoxinA), which is a neuromuscular blocking agent and acetylcholine release inhibitor. This means that Dysport works by relaxing the treated muscles so that they cannot create facial wrinkles when you laugh, frown or smile. Dysport can be injected in several areas of the face, but the most common areas for injection include the forehead, between the eyebrows (frown lines), and around the eyes (crow’s feet).
What to Expect during Dysport Treatment
A patient is engaged in an individualized consultation, in which the patient will discuss his or her concerns, goals and desired outcomes. Here, the patient can ask any questions about the treatment procedure, recovery and expected results. If the patient chooses to have Dysport injections, the procedure is quite simple.
The injections are placed according to the area to be treated. Most commonly, frown lines are addressed between the eyebrows. For this procedure, the clinician will prepare and sanitize the skin prior to injection. The clinician will strategically place the Dysport injection at specific injection sites along the forehead musculature. The whole process only takes approximately 10-20 minutes for one treatment.
The treatment is very comfortable, but a topical numbing creaming can be applied before treatment to ensure maximum patient comfort. There is no downtime with Dysport, and patients are free to resume most normal activities immediately after having the procedure.
The results typcially last 4 months on average, with an onset of the effect beginning in approximately 2-3 days after injection. It is recommended to then schedule subsequent treatments at 4 month intervals to ensure the best aesthetic result and prevention of new lines and wrinkles.
Difference between Botox and Dysport
Dysport and Botox are similar in that they both relax the muscles that cause lines and wrinkles. They are both derived from the same product: Botulinum Toxin A, a neurotoxin that is effective in temporarily relaxing muscle contractions. Dysport differs from Botox in the method of reconstitution, and therefore units injected vary from <a href="/botox">Botox</a>. The dosage of Dysport is not the same as the dosage for any other botulinum toxin product.
